Cat Juggling

What IS Cat Juggling?
Cat juggling is one of the biggest and darkest secrets that have eluded mankind over the last century. Yes, Cat Juggling. A skill that involves the throwing and catching of more than two felines, without allowing them to touch the ground, just for the mere entertainment value and/or the sheer sport. It is one of the most serious, multi-tasking events that include both man and cat.
To many folks, it is a well respected art that requires a harmonious connection between the juggler and the furry critter. To others, it is nothing more than a means of individuals capitalizing from an event where many kittens are being discombobulated and humiliated for the profit of others.
It's History
The history of Cat Juggling is believed to have begun around the turn of the century, by a man known as Pig Eye Jackson. Pig Eye made his fortune with ability to hurl these domesticated carnivorous mammals, into a circular motion, at ranges from 5 to 15 feet above the ground. Hundreds of curious individuals would file into a dark, smoke-filled rooms, for a price, to witness this feline phenomenon. Pig Eye was not only the father of this “sport” but to this day, is still the most accomplished master of CJ, to have ever lived.
The Art
Though Pig Eye made this look somewhat simple, the concentration required to not only keep these little fellas from rendering their tiny yet razor sharp appendages from digging deep into the hands of the juggler causing excruciating pain, all the while maintaining a complex figure eight design of feline madness of motion.
Even though it never gained popularity throughout major cities across this nation, it still had an enormous underground following. Though gambling was heavily inspired through all of this, it still had its share of supporters who simply admired the beauty of calico kittens being adorned in the air, melodiously. It has been said that there is nothing more exquisite than Pig Eye doing his infamous “Nine Life Catmap Extraordinaire”. Where he simultaneously engages nine tabby’s for over 64 revolutions.
Entertainment or Atrocity?
Peta and other such organizations have assembled lawmakers to enforce harsh penalties to anyone caught performing such acts. While opposing groups have advocated it’s art back into the mainstream of American entertainment deeming it has positive effects upon the species, and is encouraging more ownership, leaving fewer to be “put down” in animal shelters across this land.
Millionaire Navin R. Johnson has organized group efforts to stop this kind of event from continuing.
Though I have no real opinion on it’s future outcome, I find this topic rather fascinating.

Giggle. Giggle.
Heh, heh!
That movie is a classic.
Funny Hub and voted that way!
LOL you are funny. Thanks
Doesn't look like something I would want to try, but funny as heck.
This is so great, LOL voted up and the cats seem to actually be kind of enjoying the attention and playfulness of it all. So, great for the pets and the kids, awesome!! A.B.
Needed a good laugh that is too funny!
Hiya CMerritt, you got me! I've never seen this movie but the first picture looks like Steve Martin to me, but I thought I could be wrong. lol So funny!
Have a nice day,
Rosie
I have to send a link of this to my boyfriend, he loves cats....
Rachel
A lot of fun. I just saw Martin doing it over the weekend on an old SNL repeat.
All the Best,
Tim Bryce
I told him to practice with his cats at home, he said that he'd rather not; but he'd love to see me try. It was very entertaining.
CMerritt,
Wow! My wife as four cats. I would love to learn the trick.
God bless you. You made me laugh and have brightened my day. Rich blessings be yours brother.
Michael
C.M., I was hoping this was trick photography where the kittens were replaced by stuffed animals. I voted it up and funny on that basis only.
If it was live cats a whole nother story, How about setting them on a clay pigeon thrower and throwing them while others shoot them with shot guns? I'd find no humor in either there is a line between mistreating an animal and killing one. There's my nickles worth, 50
This is NOT something I would want to try!! VERY Funny!!
Steve Martin can be hilarious.
funny! Now get back to bashing liberals! hahah
Love it! I knew I wasn't the only person in the world who had this dark, secret passion....
I love it! Who knew that cat juggling had such a glorious history. I have learned at the feet of the master today. Thank you.
At first I thught you were kidding... :P
Great write-up. In my opinion, it's definitely art and entertainment. And let's just be honest, you know the cats love it!
I have never heard of cat juggling -- til today! Don't quite know what to think of it...yet!
OH MY!!!! This is so funny - love the pictures, the video and your serious take on the art. Best hub I've read in weeks. ;-) Have a great one!
p.s. when you drop a cat, they always land on their feet, right?
I am looking for the little "like" button for the comment! Must be spending too much time on Facebook. I'd best be off to go juggle some cats....
Hilarious spoof! The believable entity is that Steve Martin would have a hand in this!
I was checking out some Hubs of yours CMerritt after you did me the honor of becoming a follower. (I suspect it was the result of a comment I made about someone else's article.) Now, I know we have something of the same kind of humor. But I've read enough of your other articles and profile to know that we probably disagree about a great deal more than we agree on. I can't think of receiving a greater compliment than have someone accord me with that type of respect.
Encouraging us all to take an interest and respectfully listen to each other is certainly one of the aspects of HubPages that recommends it. Humor is one great catalyst. Its encouraging that there's a forum where such civilized behavior is encouraged - thanks. And I've signed on as one of your loyal followers!
P.S. I believe that there's a short movie clip of an interview between Salvador Dali and a US TV reporter. Dali is caught on camera throwing a cat in the air. He is accused of being cruel. He replies that it is a lot less cruel than making cats watch TV as Americans are reputed to do to their cats. I realize that I am just one of the 0.0000001% who finds that either funny or profound but it is a cat story and the clip might be interesting to add to any archive you may consider building, if you were able to find it!
I'm back after looking for the reference and it may have to do with the art that's to be found at the following site - it's worth a look:
Ha wow...If I tried that cats would scratch my face off!
Leave it to the pros! It's just too dangerous!
That was epic, I can't believe that got kind of popular. Lol
Cat Juggling. It was purrfectly funny.
......well as soon as I saw an image of Steve Martin - I knew the gig was up - lol lol lol - although I know they have dog fights and cock fights - and even humans fight each other - so I thought with twisted human ingenuity
that cat juggling just might be possible - remember it's still early here by Lake Erie and I have started drinking my pot of coffee yet - lol - I too juggle two cats in my life (one of whom you see - that's Little Miss Tiffy - she's a diva) and what I am mean by 'juggle' is I try to get them both happy with equal measures of attention ..... but I love your tongue in cheek writing - though - it's clever and witty and it made me think at the same time - always good to make the epi-man think - so bravo to you and so very nice to meet your acquaintance!
I told my cats about this and they're currently on a call with Gloria Allred.
