"Exceptionalism" it IS The American Way

The American Way

On July 4th 1776, our forefathers from 13 colonies came to an overwhelming conclusion that they would no longer live under the scrutiny of evil leadership, overbearing governing bodies, or hostile powers. They assembled, struggled, deliberated, conversed, articulated and then declared our Independence. They utilized some very basic principals, many they acquired from the Holy Bible and some Godly standards. They then, set forth into leading us to something extremely special…..perhaps, epic may be a better choice of words. Actually, I prefer Exceptional. An exceptional nation like no other in the course of history was born on that summer day in Philadelphia. Yes, exceptional. Many people in recent times has come to believe the word “arrogant” may be a better word to use to describe “The American Way”. But to those of us, who understand the heritage of this Nation, exceptionalism is exactly what this Country is and was designed to be. That word epitomizes the American way.


Today, the United States of America has become a land made up of 50 individual States. Each one unique but united. Every one has established many of its own sets of rules, codes and standards between its governing body and its residents…and has referred to them as their state constitution. Each one of these is also exclusive and yet still binding under a common, larger set of guidelines that all unanimously agreed upon, known as our U.S. Constitution. An exceptional document that we as Americans has “ordained” to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity. An EXCEPTIONALLY well designed text put forth for many, many generations to come.

Exceptional I say without one ounce of arrogance.

We purposely held onto our principals to guide us. Principals like those that proclaim that human liberty is above all, that all men are created equal and endowed with equal rights. Lincoln stated that these truths are “applicable to all men and all times”. It is these exceptional principals that have created one of the most prosperous and just nation’s ever in the course of history.

Not because we are arrogant, but exceptional.


It is this exceptionalism that allowed us to create the most powerful military force in the world. This exceptional mentality created the conception that to have liberties and freedoms, there is a cost. It was the driving force into utilizing this military NOT for self indulgence or for seeking more power, but to cease evil forces around the world from spreading tyranny, despotism, and totalitarianism. Allowing us to “let freedom ring” to those who were willing to take a stand against these enemies.

Not arrogance, but exceptionalism.

It is this exceptionalism that allowed us to create an economy that produces almost a quarter of the world’s wealth. It was not because the American people were arrogant, but because we have some of the hardest working, most prosperous, God-fearing and exceptionally generous citizens on this planet.

It was this exceptionalism, that nearly a hundred fifty plus years before we declared our independence, that a man named John Winthrop who desired a better place for his people. Declaring that "We must always consider; that we shall be as a city upon a hill that the eyes of all people are upon us". That shining city on a hill! This vision has been used throughout time to describe something much larger than most of us can conceive. It is this exceptional foresight, of being a beacon to the world. Even St. Matthew spoke about this saying to young believers "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden."

This is not arrogant, but it is, indeed, exceptional.

It will be this “exceptionalism” that we must always cling too. It is that mindset, which will allow us to continue to be as Lincoln once said that we may be "the last best hope" for freedom on this earth.


I for one, believe with all my heart, that the United States of America IS an exceptional Nation, and we NOW have a POTUS who also believes it...despite some of our recent turmoil, distressed economic hardships from our previous administration. With Trumps leadership, I am certain that we have enough exceptional people in this country of ours, that have maintained their principals passed on to them from previous generations. Those of us who cherish our Godly Heritage. Those of us who are eager to stand up to “Secure the Blessings of liberty”, to “insure our domestic Tranquility” to “provide for the common defense” to “promote the general Welfare” and to continue to “establish Justice”. Not because we are arrogant, but because we love this Country and find it exceptional. Because THAT is the American Way.
